About POMAA's Logo
Often we are asked, why does your logo have a snake with a rod in the middle of the word POMAA?
The snake which is on a staff, often wood in nature is the "correct" and traditional symbol of medicine. This is the staff of Asclepius, an ancient greek physician deified as the god of medicine. Asclepius is traditionally depicted as a bearded man wearing a robe that leaves his chest uncovered and holding a staff with his sacred single serpent coiled around it, symbolizing renewal of youth as the serpent casts off its skin.
POMAA decided to use the symbol since we are a physician office managers association and our organization is very much centered around medical care of all kinds. As physician office managers we not only run practices that heal our patients, but we are caregivers as well when it comes to taking care of all aspects of our practices. Ensuring both our patients and employees are well taken care of, so that our offices run smoothly. It was only fitting to have such a traditional symbol so perfectly fitted in the middle of POMAA's name where the M was well suited for the Asclepius to be placed.
